The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) was established by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India to build and promote cultural relations between India and Australia.
The Centre is located at the premises of the Consulate General of India Sydney. The Centre was announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, during his public address in Sydney on November 17, 2014, and It began its activities in February 2015.
The objective of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre is to share India’s rich and vibrant culture and foster closer cultural bridges between India and Australia. From music and dance, to art and literature, the Centre offers a vibrant range of activities and events. It also has a varied collection of books on India in its library.
The Centre is open to all, including Australian nationals, members of the Indian diaspora, expatriates, and the community. It also welcomes cultural organisations, institutions, and individuals (artists, performers, writers, and academicians) to engage and collaborate on projects and partnerships to further build cultural connections between India and Australia. It also provides guidance to students who wish to study in India on ICCR scholarships.
With continuously enhancing its inclusive and collective approach towards performing artists from various genres, cultural institutes, community organisations, and other external stakeholders, SVCC continues to develop its prospects in encouraging cultural relations between India and Australia.
