Creating South Australia’s transport future, together

A new holistic transport strategy is being developed to guide policy outcomes, driven by population growth and increased vehicle congestion, while prioritizing road safety and maximising public transport use. South Australians are invited to help shape this 30-year blueprint that will guide the state's transport network, enhance connectivity, improve access to services, and create a more liveable South Australia. Interactive pop-up sessions and VR experiences will be hosted to gather community input on transport priorities, generating personalized virtual reality animations. Tailored surveys have also been developed for the general public, businesses, and local councils to provide feedback on how transport in their area could be improved.

Laying foundations for SA’s rail future

The South Australian Government is in discussions with major global rail companies about building the next generation of the state's rail fleet using innovative technologies. Infrastructure and Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis is attending InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin, the world's largest transport technology trade fair, as part of a 160-member delegation from the Australasian Railway Association. High-level meetings are taking place with companies like Alstom, Siemens, and Hyundai Rotem, focusing on advancing the rollout of battery electric trains. These trains could expand the rail network without costly new infrastructure or line closures. Options for replacing the existing fleet and extending routes, including the Seaford and Gawler lines, are also being explored.
